Consistent data protection and optimal use of resources
1. Initial situation and challenge
Due to the discontinuation of AppMaker, Google Cloud Premier Partner Cloudwürdig was looking for a suitable low-code platform. Being a cloud-native company from the very beginning, Cloudwürdig supports customers of all sizes and industries in their digital transformation. Alongside of the suitable cloud infrastructure, this also includes modern tools for collaboration. Not every use case can be implemented out-of-the-box with the tools already available in the company. Therefore, the dev team at Cloudwürdig develops individual applications based on low-code.
The initial use case involving Simplifier was the redevelopment of a solution to track and report time and travel expenses. This included improving and expanding the user experience and functionality of the app.

Modern tools used for communication and collaboration should be accessible regardless of location and device. Additionally, they need to have the same functionalities on every device (desktop, tablet, mobile). This enables the users of the application to utilize it on a daily basis, even without training. In fact, they should want to do so. After all, what is the point of a tool that has many functions but is not accepted by the end users – be it due to difficult workflows or poor user experience. Time recording and travel expense reports contain sensitive employee data or data from individual customer projects that should not be accessible to everyone. It was therefore important to integrate a central management system for permissions and roles. Thus, the protection of the data is guaranteed at all times.
At the same time, creating these individual applications is time-consuming, tedious and expensive, as they have to be perfectly tailored to the needs and peculiarities of each company. It was therefore important for Cloudwürdig to find a low-code partner who not only supported them competently at the IT level, but also significantly increased the efficiency of the joint projects.
2. Solution and results
After an extensive demo on the low-code platform and successful discussions with Simplifier, it was quite quickly clear that Simplifier was the right technology partner for Cloudwürdig. The first project with the Simplifier low-code platform for Cloudwürdig was the development of the so-called “CW Tools” – a modern application for time tracking and travel expense reporting. Users can access the application conveniently via a browser, regardless of location and device. Thanks to the integrated administration system, employees can only see the projects and entries that they are authorized to access based on their role. This not only ensures data security, but also improves the user experience.
As Cloudwürdig is part of the Public Cloud Group, CW Tools has also been rolled out to all other companies in the Public Cloud Group and is used daily by more than 100 employees throughout Germany. Moreover, a key factor is that the application created can keep up and scale with the growth of the group and new features can be added easily.
Based on the success of the internal use case, Cloudwürdig also utilizes Simplifier in numerous customer projects. With the ability to make applications available regardless of the end device and operating system, there are no limits to the range of applications. Thus, Cloudwürdig’s customers can digitize and optimize processes throughout the company. The use of low-code significantly accelerates the development process, saving up to 50 percent of development time compared to traditional application development. Thanks to the modular architecture of Simplifier, all artifacts created can be reused in various projects without limitation. In addition, the hosting costs are reduced by the unique operating concept of the low-code platform, as only one productive server is required for all published and deployed apps. Applications are deployed via mobile client and the app-in-app concept, so there is no need for individual release by each app store – enabling the deployment process without compilation.
Another key factor is collaborative working – Cloudwürdig can collaborate directly with its customers on projects and involve specialist departments right away based on the Citizen Development approach. The existing process know-how can thus be directly incorporated into the projects.

Following the successful completion of the use case described above, Cloudwürdig will continue to utilize Simplifier for the development of low-code apps. Further projects have already been carried out successfully for customers of Cloudwürdig. Simplifier is particularly advantageous in cases where companies use modules they develop once an re-use in several apps. In this way, the modular system is used to its full advantage and reduces costs.
