How the automotive supplier is optimizing processes and future-proofing its IT with low-code from Simplifier

At a time of technological upheaval in the automotive industry, ElringKlinger has consistently realigned itself – including in IT. Since 2024, the internationally active company from Dettingen has relied on a modern cloud-first strategy with SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud and the low-code platform Simplifier. The result: more efficient processes, leaner IT structures and a new dynamic in digital application development.

Cloud transformation as a foundation

The change began with a bold step: the move to the SAP Private Cloud via RISE with SAP. The aim was to standardize IT structures, make processes consistent and create a platform that can react quickly to changes. Dirk Brümmer, Head of IT Architecture at ElringKlinger, explains: “We wanted to move away from a patchwork that had grown over decades towards an end-2-end view of processes and data.”

Low-code as a driver of innovation

In addition to the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), the decision for low-code was deliberately made in favor of Simplifier. The reason: the development platform allows solutions to be implemented more quickly, even without in-depth pro-code knowledge – a decisive advantage given the scarcity of resources in the IT market. “Without low-code, we would have had to hire around ten new developers to achieve the same number of hits,” says Brümmer.

Use cases from practice

Machine integration made easy

An example from the field of digital manufacturing: outdated CSV interfaces had to be connected to SAP DM – a challenge that was elegantly solved with an automated Simplifier workflow and accompanying Fiori apps. The result: greater process efficiency and maintenance-friendly workflows.

Data exchange in the Catena-X ecosystem

ElringKlinger has developed its own applications for data monitoring and integration with low-code for the secure exchange of traceability and emissions data. These not only meet the highest requirements for security and transparency, but also create independence from the SAP standard.

Inventory processes without paper

A new app for mobile inventory counting replaces an old, no longer maintainable SAP Z code – developed in just five days. The result: digital recording via tablet, a streamlined SAP core and increased user-friendliness.

Digitalization away from production

Even the catering ordering process for conference rooms has been fully digitized with Simplifier – from the order form to the invoice. A real time-saver for the administration, which previously had to rely on manual documentation.

A look into the future

As of May 2025, ElringKlinger has already implemented ten applications and nine workflows with Simplifier – this figure is set to rise to 100 by 2026. The low-code platform is not just an IT tool, but an enabler for interdisciplinary fusion teams.
