Efficient and flexible solutions are now the cornerstone of competitiveness. It is crucial that digitalization strategies are implemented quickly, easily and in a way that conserves resources. This is why more and more companies are turning to low-code when creating applications, as this innovative technology not only speeds up time-to-market, but also improves collaboration and reduces the workload of the IT department. One company that is already taking advantage of these benefits is the Felix Schoeller Group. The family-owned company has opted for the Simplifier low-code platform for SAP-centric applications.
Founded in 1895, the Felix Schoeller Group is a globally active family business. Headquartered in Osnabrück, the long-established company develops, produces and markets specialty papers in a total of eleven countries. The products are used for photographic applications, digital printing systems, packaging, self-adhesive applications and for the furniture, wood-based materials and wallpaper industries. Felix Schoeller always acts in line with its brand promise: uncompromising quality, unique flexibility and genuine partnership. To live up to this motto, the company relies on modern technologies.
Dr. Philip Gerstner, Head of Digital Solutions
“As a family business, securing the future is particularly important to us. That’s why we are consistently driving forward our digitalization strategy. Low-code has been an important component of this for some time now, which is why we also want to use the technology to create SAP-centric applications.”
Main criterion: Compatibility with SAP
Although the paper manufacturer was already using low-code platforms, they could not meet the requirements for an optimal interface to SAP. In addition, there was a desire to create applications based on Fiori – but the major entry hurdles prevented efficient use. Based on these challenges, the company decided to rely on Simplifier for SAP-related applications.
The low-code platform offers a range of out-of-the-box connections and interfaces to the SAP system that can be used immediately. But Simplifier also scores points beyond the standardized connectors: The creation of Fiori apps is made significantly easier by the platform’s graphical user interface and the use of the UI5 framework ensures a uniform and appealing user interface.

Successful partnership
The start of the collaboration was accompanied by an enabling service from the Simplifier team. This provided Felix Schoeller employees with the necessary knowledge to successfully use the low-code platform, so that two of the planned applications were implemented together within just two months. The first application was deployed as a standalone application with its own device management.
Daniel Werries, SAP Inhouse Consultant PP/APO
“We are very satisfied with the collaboration and the results achieved. In addition to the uncomplicated connection to SAP, we have also developed and implemented an interface to our own API and removed the entry barriers for Fiori apps. The collaboration is optimal. The Simplifier team supports us professionally at all times and is on hand to answer any questions we may have.”
Another feature that the paper manufacturer’s team particularly appreciates is the theming, which allows the company to create its own design for the applications.
Dr. Philip Gerstner, Head of Digital Solutions
“The applications have our look and feel. Our employees therefore perceive them as self-developed applications, which in turn means that they give us direct feedback if they have any customization requests. That makes our day-to-day work much easier.”
