Simplifier supports S/4HANA migration by simplifying the porting of existing applications in the form of Fiori apps
Würzburg, 19 November 2020 – Digitalization is a high priority at Viessmann, a global provider of air conditioning and refrigeration solutions. At the heart of this is the S/4HANA migration. Accordingly, the modernization of existing applications as well as the fast and uncomplicated development of new applications are part of the digitization strategy. Viessmann is now relying on Simplifier’s low-code technology. This allows the company to benefit from the simple porting of existing applications in the form of Fiori apps and rapid application development based on UI5.
The digital transformation has been in full swing at Viessmann for some time now. The centerpiece is the company’s own future platform 2025 with the implementation of the new ERP system S/4HANA from SAP. In this context, it was necessary to modernize existing applications and develop new ones. Viessmann opted for Simplifier’s low-code platform in order to be able to act flexibly and sustainably when creating applications.
High integration capability and SAP-centric approach
Viessmann already switched from SAP R3 to S/4HANA in 2019 with a greenfield approach. However, some of the existing Freestyle applications are not compatible with S/4HANA. To save time and resources during the changeover, Viessmann is relying on Simplifier’s low-code technology. This allows Viessmann to port existing applications, such as top-floor apps, in the form of Fiori apps.
At the same time, the low-code platform simplifies and accelerates the development of new applications based on UI5. Simplifier’s SAP-centric approach and ready-made interfaces make it extremely easy to integrate the existing SAP system. The SAPUI5 framework is used for the development of Fiori interfaces. Simplifier works with the OpenUI5 framework and can therefore generate HTML markups based on UI5.
Flexibility and independence
Another advantage of Simplifier is that the platform of the Würzburg-based low-code specialist is based on open web standards such as HTML5. Viessmann also retains sovereignty over the source code, meaning it can migrate its applications to a different development environment if required. The expert for air conditioning and refrigeration solutions thus remains independent, transparent and flexible in the long term.
“Simplifier’s SAP-centric approach fits very well with our IT strategy, as we want to implement as many internal applications as possible with the UI5 framework,” explains Andreas Schreiber, Head of Google Cloud Platform and Development at Viessmann. “With Simplifier, we can easily create simple applications using the intuitive user interface and at the same time expand more complex applications individually.”
“Many in-house developments (freestyle apps) are only partially S/4HANA-compatible. This presents companies like Viessmann with the challenge of developing these applications as Fiori apps and then porting them when migrating to S/4HANA,” says
Christopher Bouveret, CIO at Simplifier . “We are delighted that we can contribute to supporting Viessmann’s IT strategy with our platform.”Christopher Bouveret, CIO at Simplifier
